Today marks the 67th birth anniversary of our Prominent Telugu Personality, Sri Jandyala Subramaniya Sastry Garu. He is popularly known as Hasya Brahma Jandhyala.
Jandhyala, the name makes Telugu folks laugh! His movies are preferred medicine for many of us when not feeling so well. We take a great pleasure to write article on Jandyala garu. Lets start reading.
He is a popular Director, Writer and an Actor. He was born on 14 January 1951 at Narasapuram, Andhrapradesh. He is the son of Jandhyala Narayana Murthy. He graduated with a bachelors in Commerce from SRR and CVR College, Vijayawada.
He is well known Comedian and stage artist from childhood. His stage plays entertains us with mythological characters with elaborate costumes. He even won prizes for his performances while in school.
He was a noted playwright during his college days. His first play 'Ek Din Ka Sultan' became a pretty popular play. His last play was Gundelu Marchabadunu.
Some of known and unknown facts about our Hasya Brahma:
1. He entered the films as a lyricist through the film 'Punya Bhoomi Kallu Teru'.
2. His first film as a dialogue writer was K. Vishwanath's 'Siri Siri Muvva'.
3. He was the dialogue writer for films like 'Shankaraabharanam'.
4. He turned into a director with the film 'Mudda Mandaaram'. And his last film 'Vichitram' was apparently his 60th film as a director.
5. He introduced Brahmanandam, Sutthi Veerabhadra Rao, Sutthi Velu, Potti Prasad, Subbaraya Sharma and so on who not only are great comedians but fantastic actors also.
6. He had given voice for dubbed version of Mani Ratnam’s Iddaru Movie (Iruvar-Tamil Original) for the character of Prakash Raj. The indigenous touch given by Jandhyala garu through his voice is something never forgotten!
7. He is the Only director who had the unique idea of keeping “Titla Dandakam” as a song in Shh Gup Chup. It was penned by the great lyricist Jonnavitthula.
8. E.V.V.Satyanarayana, who also did many comedy films later worked as an assistant to Jandhyala. In fact, the idea of the gender reversal in Mogudu Pellalu was suggested by EVV, which was later made by him as a full time movie - “Jamba Lakadi Pamba”.
9. Every film of Jandhyala garu has at least one classical or a beautiful melody song.
10. Many of the comedy film directors who made mark in Telugu Cinema later- Relangi Narasimha Rao, E.V.V.Satyanarayana and even the recent dialogue writer turned director Trivikiram have an unavoidable Jandhyala mark in many of their works.
11. His film Srivariki Premalekha became an all time comedy film. His other film Ananda Bhairavi was a milestone in his career and won many awards including the National award for best director.
The great man Jandyala garu continues to live ingrained in Telugu films History forever.
And finally,
One of his famous quotes in Telugu was "Navvadam oka bhogam, Navvinchadam oka yogam, Navvalekapovadam oka rogam".
It's English Translation is "To be able to laugh is a blessing, to make others laugh is an art and to be unable to laugh is a disease".
Jandhyala garu died on 19 June 2001.
