How To Calculate Your Electricity Bill. Its all with a simple calculation !!

Every month when you get electricity bill, you may not think a whole lot about what goes into it. But in fact, every electronic device or appliance we use adds a little something to your bill. By figuring out the electricity usage of each device you can simply manage your electricity bill.

Calculating the energy cost of an appliance or electronic device is fairly easy. Most devices have a label that lists how many watts it uses, either on the device or in the owner's manual. You will also need to estimate how many hours a day you use a particular appliance.

Calculate Electricity Bill- 4 Simple Steps

STEP 1 : Watts Per Day

Calculating the energy consumption cost needs a simple calculation. simply multiply the unit's wattage by the number of hours you use it to find the number of watt-hours consumed per day.
For example, let's say you use a 50 watt laptop for 3 hours per day. Multiplying the wattage by the number of hours used per day, we find that you are using 150 watt-hours per day.
50 watts X 3 hours = 150 watt-hours per day

STEP 2 : Convert to Kilowatts

But the electricity bill measure was in kilowatt hours(Units). Since we know that 1 kilowatt is equal to 1000 watts, dividing the watt hours per day by 1000 we can convert to kilowatts per day.
150 watt-hours per day / 1000 = 0.150 kWh per day

STEP 3 : Usage for Month Period

By multiplying the month days with kWh per day we can get this figure. So, finally you figured out the monthly usage of your laptop.
0.150 kWh per day X 30 days = 4.5 kWh per month

STEP 4 : Figuring Out the Cost

Checkout the last mont electric bill to get the 'Cost per unit'. For this example, let's say you pay 5 Rupees per unit (unit=kWh). To find how much your laptop is costing you in a month, multiply your electricity rate by the kWh per month that you calculated above.
4.5 kWh per month X Rs.5 per kWh = Rs. 22.5 per month

The wattage on appliances or electronics varies by device. Typically, older model appliances use more energy, but newer models tend to be more efficient.
